Other face of Raku and Raugo ceramics

"Other face of Raku" is an unusual show of unique and spectacular firing of a two-metre ceramic work made together with students from the Department of Ceramics of the Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław.

Just after firing the work in a special gas kiln, it will be uncovered. The show will be supervised by Rytis Konstantinavičius! Be there, for sure there will be a lot going on!

Raugo ceramics is one of the oldest methods of sealing ceramics used by the Balts in the times when glazes were not used yet. It is the most eco-friendly ceramics because the colouring does not involve using heavy metal oxides. Sometimes it is called "bread ceramics" because after the vessel is taken out from a kiln which is 900 C hot, it is dipped in bread sourdough. Raugo ceramics is definitely unique around the world and there are not many artists working with this technique.

RYTIS KONSTANTINAVIčIUS (born 1969) comes from Lithuania, graduate of the Faculty of Ceramics and Glass at the Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław. At present he is an assistant technician at the department of ceramics of the Academy and leads ceramic sculpture classes in the ODT Światowid Culture Centre in Wrocław and he has run his own ceramic studio in Poland since 1996. He stared his adventure with ceramics in art school in Daugai in 1984. He makes ceramic sculpture, paints, builds and fires ceramic kilns, runs ceramic and painting workshops. He is a member of the group of Lithuanian artists in Poland "LDK", participant of many international exhibitions and symposia. In 2014 he broke the Guiness Record of making the biggest vessel in the world. His ceramic works can be seen in Babimost, Wrocław, Warszawa, Alkmaar (Holland).
