Gnome Kiln

This year Michał Podleśny will build a woodfired kiln, which will resemble a grotesque figure of a gnome with a metal body hissing and shooting with flames.

What is its meaning? For the artist this work is a comment on the level of artistic awareness among our countrymen. The gnome will be holding a chair above his flame-lit head and his entrails will be burning. There will be a group of children sitting around the kiln making their own sculptures. Thus in a way they will become a part of the surreal vision.

Michał Podleśny – born in 1990 in Częstochowa, graduated from the Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław. In his creative work he looks for new challenges and means of expression. He likes figurative art which he makes a grotesque comment on reality. He works with different materials and media: metal, wood, stone, plastic, sound, fire. He builds his own kilns.
