Conference “Around the Fire”

The keynote of this year conference is "Around the fire" theme. The conference will be an opportunity to present authors' attitude towards different fields of artistic activity involving the use of fire and high temperatures.
We have invited 13 guests from Poland, the Czech Republic, Great Britain, Greece, USA, Portugal and Turkey who will share their knowledge and passion in 20-minute lectures in three sections: CERAMICS, METAL and GLASS. About experiences with metal we will hear from: Andy Griffiths – a British sculptor building cupola furnaces; Markos Georgilakis – a sculptor from Athens School of Art; Paulo Tuna – a "bladesmith" working in Portugese ESAD University and an American sculptor James Wade. About ceramics we will listen to the lectures of: Dagmara Łaciak from the Institute of Prehistory at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań who will talk about ceramics from the perspective of an archeologist; two young assistant tutors from the Deparment of Glass – Emilia Krankowska and Dawid Żynda – will tell us about their creative explorations with fire; and a Czech artist Miroslava Randová will give us a chance to find out more about her experiments and glazes. In the glass section we will welcome: Petr Novotny – a Czech glassworker and the owner of AJETO school of glass – who will talk about his 50-year long artistic activity; an artist Agâh Barış Can Aksakal cooperating with Mimar Sinan University in Istambul who will introduce some secrets of Turkish glass; a designer Agnieszka Bar who will share her experience from her visit in the Turkish glass centre Cam Ocagi; Sebastian Pietkiewicz designing for the industry will talk about work with crystal glass; and finally Antonina Joszczuk – an artist and teacher in the Department of Glass at the Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław – will take us to the mysterious world of glass dreams.
