Artists of FHT 2016 – Mateusz Grobelny and Michał Puszczyński

This year during the Festival artists Michał Puszczyński and Mateusz Grobelny together with students of the Department of Ceramics (The Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław) in an unusual way are going to commemorate a Danish artist – Nina Hole who died this year.

Nina Hole was a precursor of so called sculptures of fire and she introduced ceramics into a completely new area of artistic activity.

In the Main Yard of the Academy artists will built a 4 metre-high installation which will be fired exclusively with wood and on Saturday night, when it reaches the temperature of 1100 C, it will be opened and presented red hot to the audience.

Michał Puszczyński (born 1976) graduated from the Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław in 2001. At present he works as an assistant professor in the Studio of art ceramics at the same Academy. He has received many scholarships and participated in exibitions in Poland and abroad: Holland, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Austria, Spain, Slovenia, Korea, USA. In his art he focuses on the cycle of life. He is interested in the process of decay, destruction of matter. He pays attention to the meaning of the process of creation itself, experimenting with different materials (clay, concrete, ground).

Mateusz Grobelny (born 1980) graduated from the Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław. He has twice received the Scholarship of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. He runs the ceramics-sculpture studio in the International Centre of Ceramics in Bolesławiec. He presented his kilns during Festival of Ceramics in Bolesławiec, Industriada in Chorzów 2012, Festival Argilla in Faenzie (Italy) and International Ceramic Festival in Aberystwyth Arts Centre (Great Britain).
