Artists of the 11th Festival – Kurt Dyrhaug
Kurt Dyrhaug – originally from St. Paul, Minnesota, Kurt Dyrhaug is currently a Professor and Distinguished Faculty Research Fellow at Lamar University where he teaches Sculpture, 3D Design, 3D Printing, and Art Appreciation.
Dyrhaug earned his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Minnesota (1993) and his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (1989). Dyrhaug’s sculpture and drawing employs agricultural and nautical imagery taken from his experiences living in Southeast Texas. Since 2008, Dyrhaug’s sculpture and drawing has been included in over 190 national juried and invited exhibitions including one-person exhibitions at the Galveston Art Center, Dishman Art Museum, Lawrence University, University of Dallas, and Texas A&M University. Mr. Dyrhaug is also active as a visiting artist and artist in residence. Most recently, he served as an invited consultant for casting iron at the Atelierhaus Hilmsen in Hilmsen, Germany and an artist in residence at the Fundacion Torres Pujales in Corme, Spain. At the 11th Festival of High Temperatures will lead a spectacular iron pour from a cupola furnace on 23rd June, starting 7 p.m. The artist will use a cupola furnace built at the Academy several years ago.
